History & Biography Anima Nera was formed in August of 2001 when Jason Morris and Tony
Hayden moved west in the USA and met up with Depolittle and later with
Prime and Bott. After several
line-up changes the band entered the studio in September of 2002 and
recorded its debut for Utah's Stereo Records.
The band played with Agalloch and Antimatter and had opened for In
Flames locally prior to the album.
The band soon broke up amidst internal strife and acrimony with Morris
and Hayden taking their leave. Drew Deboer (from Her Blacklist) and
Chuck Berret became members. The resulting line-up recorded a MCD
which was rockier in nature, but was soon to call it a day with the
departure of Dan Bott.
Reviews ANIMA NERA - same - STEREO
Utah's Anima Nera is an obscure band specializing in cacophony pure and simple. The quintet can slow down for the occasional acoustic guitar interlude, but is fundamentally a noisy metal band replete with wailing guitars, screamed and growled vocals, pounding drums and other tools of the wicked. The band's guitar sound, in particular, is sharp and on the money. Eight songs are listed, but the CD actually features ten. Metallian's favourite song has to be The Ashes Of Innocence. The CD ends with a noise track and a Motley Crue cover, both of which are unlisted. - Ali "The Metallian"
