History & Biography Not to be confused with the other bands with a similar name, including another British act, Apocalypse was an NWOBHM act that was based in London between 1980 and 1983. The act featured the Grainger brothers. An early bassist was Dave 'Mex' Higgen. The band recorded in 1981 and shopped its music to no avail. The Stormchild 7" followed in 1982. The band changed its name to Omega and went rocky, but that lasted until 1988. The monicker had changed under pressure from a British rock band also called Apocalypse. Omega issued an album called The Prophet, which was originally meant to be Apocalypse's self-titled album.
Germany's High Roller Records is huge on recycling and issued a compilation of the band's material, called Abandon Hope, in 2010. In the meantime, the band had reunited a couple of times including once in the late 1980s as 'Apocalypse NWOBHM' and then again in 2005. Dave Robertson died in 2011. Blood Sacrifice was a split release of Apocalypse and Omega through High Roller Records in 2011, which featured a Metallian serf on its cover. The same label issued an album of older and newer material by Steve Grainger, including Phaze tunes, called Last Man Standing in 2026.
