History & Biography
The power/thrash metal band was founded in 1982. Several members came from the band Apad. The band was influenced by NWOBHM, but absorbed more thrashy influences and grew heavier. Demos were Nesmíš To Vzdát (1987) and Zpomínky (1988). The band was able to play in the Soviet Union in 1989. Guitarists Jiří Urban and Miroslav Mach became the group's mainstays although bassist Zdeněk Kub was with the act from 1986 to 2001 as well. The latter joined in 1986, left in 1988 before rejoining permanently in 1990. The 1995 album Legendy was a cover versions' release. The group established itself as a hard-working act that released album with regularity. The releases were confined to the domestic market however. Whether the title was Czech or english the songs themselves stuck with the Czech language. 15 was the name of a full-length video of interviews and live material in 1997. It was released on the occasion of the group's 15th birthday. A 2001 album, called Forrest Gump, was named after a 1990s' Hollywood movie. Archeology featured older tracks recorded newly. The band and Dymytry, featuring Jiří Urban Jr., son of Arakain's Jiří Urban, toured together in 2014. 40 - O2 Universum was another live album. Marek Loučka joined on bass in 2022.

According to the band, drummer Miroslav Nedvěd (1982 - 1985) came up with the name while drunk. He believed 'Arakain"' was the name of a medicine used against lice and other parasites. The product he had in mind, however, was actually called Nerakain. The name had stuck, by the time everyone noticed the mistake.
