History & Biography
Aska was founded in the late 1980s with a different singer and released a self-titled demo in 1991. The act now featured brothers George Call and drummer Damon Call, who were born and had grown up in Panama by the Panama Canal, which was colonized by the USA. George Call and guitarist Darren Knapp had had a school band called Leejon. Members came and members went. Demos came and demos went and the act never achieved any commercial success.

The debut demo's cover featured the American bald eagle and flag signifying the jingoistic instincts of Americans. The group reported that multiple labels, including Metal Blade and LMP, were competing for its signature. George Call was part of a religious production called The Jew playing the character of Jesus. The band started receiving money from the US government to play gigs for overseas' soldiers in support of the military-industrial complex and American bases. As such, the band toured Europe and Asia. Immortal was a 1994 demo. The group added to its flags, eagles and Department Of Defense base and included a song called Dream In Color, in which lead singer George Call sang, "I'm proud to be a white man in America. Glad that I'm an Aryan." The group's live presentation included military gear and American flags.

Six Tongues was a 1996 demo. The Avenger demo of 2000 was repressed by Steelheart Records in 2002. In the meantime, a concert opening for Bulletboys was cancelled when the latter band bailed. The group also recorded a cover version of Iron Maiden's Flight Of Icarus for Steelheart's A Tribute To The Glory Of '80s Metal. The 2007 demo Absolute Power was also later repressed. Damon Call left after recording Nine Tongues. Jason Sweatt, who replaced him, had played with the band live previously when Damon Call had broken his elbow in a car accident. The band was due to open for Warrant, but played solo when that band cancelled. Regardless, by now the band had opened for acts like Ratt and Lillian Axe. Two members were in Omen at different times. Aska had opened for Omen previously. This is how a connection to Pure Steel Records was made. The group was booked for Rocklahoma in 2011. Later on three members of Aska were members of Cloven Hoof.

BraveWords Records signed Aska for the digital release of its 2024 demo Knight Strike, which was to be issued in 2025. The band had a lyric video for the song From Out Of The Sky. It was written by bassist Keith Knight who also delivered the lead vocals for it. The song was a follow-up to another track from the band. The Last Message. Aska and label-mates Lillian Axe announced a concert in Dallas, Texas on August 17th 2025.

The founding members recall that 'Aska' was the acronym of a Panamanian gang.
