Reviews AS MY WORLD BURNS - LETTERS FROM ALASKA - NOISE HEAD
Thankfully, this disc apparently has nothing to do with Sarah Failin’ the queen of American idiocy and retardednessiness. Nevertheless, one would be forgiven for hating this disc from the start without even having heard it.
As My World Burns hails from Spain and has nothing to do with Alaska, that one knows or is explained. What came to mind repeatedly when listening to the full-length is how this band needs a label for better distribution and promotion. The quality is high. After a week of listening to the CD, it was time to review the disc and what pops out opening the booklet? A label, namely Noise Head Records, has issued the disc. Why the mistake? The band had mailed in the CD to Metallian Towers directly. What is the point of being on a label that conducts no promotion? Likely, the band itself paid for the recording. No wonder, the music business is destroyed.
The band is not what one would stylistically call a Metallian favourite. These hooligans have both breakdowns and boy band chants in their songs. It is a pity for the group is hard as nails and anti-melodic to the core. The abrasive attack can be devastating with a good instance being Clocks, which borders on Napalm Death. Yet, the band deems it necessary to crush itself and its dignity with mallcore influences. Why? Stupidity likely. Were the band to drop the crap and concentrate on its mission the beats are brutal, the vomitous singer bestial and the drumming both fitting in heaviness and perfect in its heavy sound. A song like A Bullet And A Farewell has a near perfect crushing start showcasing the band’s competence, but the impurity still exists. Tight as hell though.
