History & Biography
Sheffield, England has been the headquarters for Ba’al since 2016. The band won the Bloodstock Festival’s Metal 2 The Masses competition in 2017. The group was first heard through a three-song EP, entitled In Gallows By Mass, towards the end of 2017. Next came the Reverence EP in 2019. Its lyrics crisscrossed reality and fantasy. There was viola on one track. As is typical, the young band had already lost several members including singer Steffan Benham. Nick had become the sole original member left standing.

The band had a full-length next. It was recorded in the nick of time at the beginning of the pandemic and had even more viola. Nonetheless, the act and Gozer toured in 2021. The group toured the UK with Ofnus of Wales in 2023. Sludge/rock band Ba’al had an EP called Soft Eyes through Ripcord Records in 2024. This one strayed away from metal and into commercial territory even more with the addition of violin, cello and synthesizers. Cello player Alex Marshall was a school friend of Richard Spencer. The two had played in a youth orchestra. Guitarist Chris Mole had replaced Tom Arnold prior to this release. Ba'al released its second full-length album, entitled The Fine Line Between Heaven And Here, through Road To Masochist on July 18th 2025. The group booked an appearance at Plymouth’s One For Sorrow Festival in August of 2025.
