History & Biography
Before The Dawn is a dark/goth band first founded by Tuomas Saukkonen as a solo project in 1999. The act disbanded in 2013 before the predictable return in 2021. Early demos were To Desire (2000), Gehenna (2001), which added several members, and My Darkness (2002). My Darkness was also the name for the debut full-length in early 2003. The next album added keyboardist Mika Ojala. The act supported Katatonia on the road in Europe in 2003. All members were replaced and concert musicians were recruited, which Tuomas called Live Assault Team in 2005. Tuomas Saukkonen was a solo player on The Ghost however. Some of the more melodic material written here became the basis for a new project called Dawn Of Solace. Before The Dawn opened for Amorphis on the Forging Europe Tour in autumn of 2009. Decade Of Darkness was an anniversary EP in 2010. It too charted in Finland. There was a video for the song End Of Days.

Deadlight introduced singer and bassist Lars Eikind. The title track charted in Finland. Before The Dawn released its fifth album, Soundscape Of Silence, through Stay Heavy Records on October 29th 2008. Dani Miettinen was hired for drums, but his recordings were discarded after being dismissed as subpar.

Deathstar Rising was on Nuclear Blast. Atte Palokangas was on drums. There was a video for the song Deathstar. Rise Of The Phoenix is the name of the seventh album from the Finnish band. It was issued through FrostByte Media. The band now featured bassist Pyry Hanski and drummer Joonas Kauppinen. Tuomas Saukkonen decided to end working on all his bands, Before The Dawn, Dawn Of Solace, Black Sun Aeon and Routasielu. He would instead focus on Wolfheart.

The return was in 2021. Tuomas Saukkonen took over the drums as well. Defiled Serenity was formed by Before The Dawn singer Paavo Laapotti in 2021. Hinayana was touring as opener for Before The Dawn and Wolfheart in 2023. Archaic Flame was a 2024 mini-album. Finland-based Before The Dawn signed with Reaper Entertainment in 2025, which was affiliated with Nuclear Blast coincidentally. The band's old label Stay Heavy Records and Reaper were releasing a LP of the band's acoustic stream show of 2021. The band was touring with Stam1na and Swallow The Sun in 2025. Cold Flare Eternal was the title for the latest album in 2025. Saku Moilanen was on keyboards and Tuomas also drummed. There was a video for the song As Above, So Below. This was a well worn title previously utilised by acts as diverse as Behemoth to Yngwie Malmsteen.

Like Tuomas himself, all musicians are strict part-timers.
