History & Biography
Imagine the fans' surprise when what was essentially Carcass with a new name appeared with a commercial rock/hard rock ("Bastardised hard-rock" according to the band) sound complete with horns. The album was produced by Carcass producer Colin Richardson as well. Well, perhaps the surprise was not that great given the devolution of Carcass. In fact, the band's name came from the Carcass song Blaack Star from the 1996 album, Swansong. The band became Blackstar Rising in order to avoid confusion with another band. Regardless, the band was splitsville by 1998. Drummer Ken Owen suffered a brain haemorrhage in February of 1999.
