History & Biography
The crusty crossover thrash band was founded in 2021 by several scene veterans with Selle the last to join. That summer brought a demo called Ruiner. The group also climbed the stage in that year. A follow-up demo was 2025's Target Of Distortion. Selvajaria Records put the demos together and issued it as Target Of Ruin in 2026.

Reviews

CATACHREST - TARGET OF RUIN - SELVAJARIA
The label calls this band and release, "the debut album from the Swedish raw lo-fi metalish crust band' and, while not completely wrong, a few things are left unsaid. For one, the said album is a compilation for Catachrest. This release gets its title from the act's earlier releases. The release is composed of four tracks from the Target Of Distortion demo released in July 2025 and four songs taken from the August 2021 demo Ruiner. The latter's music has been re-mixed and recorded with additional guitars in 2025. The distinction between the two sets of songs is obvious, as the sound quality differs markedly between the old and the new. Moreover, the demos' titles explain the name of this release. By the way, the Target Of Distortion demo is the one with a song called Ruiner!
What about the music then? There is definitely a crossover feel here. The first track Proximity Of Death is death and thrash metal, but the follow-up Violent Force picks up a lot of hardcore influences. Listen carefully and a few early Bathory influences pop up as well as Sodom and a bunch of fast riffs that could have belonged to Protector. Åsa's vocals bear no hint of her femininity. A nice mix. - Anna Tergel
