History & Biography
The band from Northern Germany was founded in 2018 and began mixing neo-folk elements into metal. 2019 brought Songs from A Time Forgotten, which was a split release between Winterfell and the band. The same year yielded the Der Gesang Der Waldkinder demo. The forest struck again with the 2020 demo, which was entitled Auwald. Sommergesit joined on bass. A couple of split releases lead to a full-length simply called Cineastre in 2023. Herbstgeist left. Since each member's alias pointed to a different season, this left three seasons in the band's calendar. Wintergeist took the opposite angle and began joining and founding multiple projects.

Black Lion Records signed Germany-based dark folk act Cineastre in 2025. An album was slated for June 2025. First, however, the band had an EP called Fortgang. The band was now "romantic dark folk." The band had a concert with Ancst locally in May 2025. Hymnen An Die Nacht was the title for the full-length, which was out on July 25th, 2025. Florian Münster mixed and mastered. Wintergeist handled the vocals.
