History & Biography
Based out of northern Russia and Novgorod since 2014, doom and sludge act Crust was first heard through the self-titled demo of 2015. Slum Stories, True Shades Of The True World, an instrumental version of the same and Animals Of The Concrete Forest followed. The last title was also released in an instrumental version. RUMF Productions issued the band’s 2019 debut album, The Promised End. Drummer Igor Prokofyev left. Stoic appeared less than a year later. The industrious band released ...And A Dirge Becomes An Anthem in the same year. Shallow Grave Live was a live recording obviously. There was not a title track. A song was called Approaching Grave however. The group appeared at a show called Shallow Grave in Moscow. ...And A Dirge Becomes An Anthem: Live At MOD followed. Bonfires 2023 was recorded at the show of the same name. The group was calling itself black metal now, but one would be hard-pressed to find any black metal in the lyrics.

The band appeared at Stoned Heavy Comedown. Avantgarde Music issued Russia-based (now deemed) post-black metal/sludge trio Crust’s Dissolution album in late 2023. Album number six was again on a new label. Where Light Fears To Descend was available through Moribund Records in May 2025. Guitarist Denis Borovinsky was part of the ensemble now.
