History & Biography Dagger is a hard rock and heavy metal band from Stockholm, Sweden. The band was formed in 2009 by former and current death metal musicians, Fred Estby (Necronaut and Dismember) David Blomqvist (Dismember), Tobias Cristiansson (Grave and Dismember) and Jani Kataja of Sideburn. The three dismembered ones formed the band when some of Estby’s material was deemed unsuitable for Necronaut. Tyrant of Nifelheim was in the band from 2010 to 2013. Tyrant had drawn the Dagger logo, which Nicke had spruced up for the forthcoming 7”. The band was managed by Clandestine music, which worked with Dark Tranquillity, Misery Index, Anneke Van Giersbergen, Glorior Belli, Anvil and more.
The band’s home studio is Gutterview Recorders Studio, which is owned by Fred Estby and former Entombed man Nicke Andersson. Estby had for years worked at Sunlight Studio in Stockholm.
In 2013, the band released a 7” EP entitled Mainline Riders through High Roller Records. A full-length was being recorded.
In mid-2014, Century Media Records signed The Dagger (formerly Dagger). The Dagger featured singer Jani Kataja, former Dismember personnel David Blomqvist (guitars), Fred Estby (drums) and Tobias Cristiansson (bass).
