History & Biography
After playing several gigs as Tarot in 1983, the Liverpool-based band, named after the capital of Syria, was official as of 1983. The name change coincided with the arrival of singer Billy Downs. Guitarist Dave owned a music shop. The band lasted a mere two years however. Damascus released a self-titled demo and a demo entitled Open Your Eyes (with Billy Downs' mugshot on the cover) in 1984. The band's rhythm section was changed in the midst of the recording sessions and the EP was repressed with the new line-up listed. This new version also sported a new back cover. Bassist Duncalf was in a work accident later which resulted in his losing several fingers. Cold Horizon was a compilation of the band's material through High Roller Records in 2012. A one-off reunion - with the earlier incarnation members - occurred at Brofest #2 in Newcastle, England in 2014.
