History & Biography
The Dayglo Abortions are Canada's premier punk/crossover ambassadors whose songs, while seemingly rude on the surface, pack a punch thematically. The band was formed by Tim (vocals and guitar), Trevor (guitar and bass) and Brian (drums) in Victoria in 1979 and released Out Of The Womb as a vinyl-only release limited to 1,000 pressed under the Dayglow Abortions name. The band opened for the likes of D.O.A, House Of Commons and The Droogs in the same year. Gigs in 1982 were with Social Distortion, Youth Brigade, Tylenol and No Exit. The band set up a Out Of The Womb summer tour for 1982. The act had US and Canadian gigs with Nomeansno, The Accused and Red Tide in 1983. The group was being called Day Glows now. Several 1985 gigs in Canada and USA were with Raw Power. Then there was a tour with Bad Attitude and Awol. Gretsky left the band in 1986, which meant he had a short stay after making the band a quartet for a while. Nev (who left in 1989) and Mike joined instead turning the act into a quintet. The group went by Dayglo Abortions now. The act opened for D.R.I. in the USA. Then came a tour with Raw Power. A 1987 US concert was cancelled due to not receiving a visa to enter that country.

The band had a long association with Toronto label Fringe and was the subject of a lawsuit for decency in Canada. The case brought by a cop upset at himself for raising a daughter who would bring home a Dayglo Abortions' album went all the way up to the Supreme Court Of Canada. The band and label won. Mike Jac left in 1994, made a brief appearance in 1997 and eventually returned again in 2009.

The band has some of the best themes and cover art anywhere and has remained generally sharp throughout the years. 1998's Stupid World Stupid Songs is a sampler from the band's first 6 releases. Former member Nev died in 2013. Matt Fiorito joined on guitar in 2015. Much to the disappointment of fans, volumes 1 to 9 did not precede the Shut The Fuck Up And Listen. Vol. 10 compilation of 2018. Upside Down World was a 2023 EP.
