History & Biography
The project was initially founded in 2005 before changing names for a year in 2013. The band's first name referenced the city of Astrakhan in Russia. The act changed to its newer monicker in 2014. The act's first two monickers were taken by other groups. 'Cosmonauts' refer to Soviet astronauts. A debut record appeared in 2017. Expect Nothing was released by TPL Records and the music actually stemmed from more than a decade prior! Vocals were added more recently. The Members were serial band hoppers with a couple of them previously or concurrently in bands together. A couple of these bands were AOR, had rock or death metal, while Dead Kosmonaut specialised in hard rock and heavy rock. The band was booked for Muskelrock.

Rekviem was an EP in 2019 and appeared on High Roller Records. The 2020 full-length, Gravitas, contained the tracks Dead Kosmonaut - Part I and Dead Kosmonaut - Part II. Ironically, these songs were written for another Reinholdsson project! Guitarist Pär Fransson left in 2025.

Sweden-based heavy metal group Dead Kosmonaut had an album called Retrospectre, which was issued through Edged Circle Productions in June of 2026. The band had signed with the label just three months prior.
