History & Biography
Deathspell Omega is a band from Poitiers, Nouvelle-Aquitaine in central France that was founded as a pure black metal band in 1998 and overtime incorporated more new age and avant-garde elements. The band has been influential for its soundscapes and technical abilities.

Deathspell Omega was founded by Hasjarl as a side-project to the band Hirilorn, but became the main act when the latter group broke up. Hasjarl, Shaxul and Khaos were the first formation, but Shaxul gave way to Mikko Aspa of Northern Heritage Records for the third record. However, part of the allure of the band has been its anonymity, lack of membership updates, shows or even photographs.

The group was first heard through the Disciples Of The Ultimate Void demo of 1999. This was distributed through Drakkar Productions. The band and the Germany-based Moonblood issued a split next. The group’s debut full-length came through the NSBM (i.e. Nazi) label Northern Heritage and was called Infernal Battles. This album featured a drum machine on its Side A. Later albums were on Norma Evangelium Diaboli, the parent company of End Of All Life Productions of Hasjarl. An edition of the debut included the demo tracks as well. There were several split releases before and after Inquisitors Of Satan. The third record moved away from fierce and true black metal. This album was also the first in a trilogy dealing with theology in general and God and Lucifer in particular. The band proclaimed its adherence to analog recording on The Furnaces Of Palingenesia.

A one-song EP called Veritas Diaboli Manet In Aeternum: Chaining The Katechon appeared in 2008. This song also became the band’s contribution to a split release with France-based band S.V.E.S.T.
