Reviews DISPLACED PERSON - [MOTIVE] - ECLIPSE
When a totally DIY tape accompanied by a confused biography and some scrap Japanese interview landed on my lap my first thought was "an underground find" naturally. That is until I deducted from the jumbled paper that this is a dub of an album actually released in Japan through a label called Eclipse. That makes more sense for an album by this band released through Howling Bull already sits in the archives of Metallian Towers. Displaced Person is best described as a hardcore band. The yelling vocals of Norio Kumakawa (who often gets on my nerves) and the messy drumming of Tetsushi Nakagawa (something in that name sounds familiar), couples with the energetic guitar dynamics to justify that description. It is those guitars which are probably the tape's best asset. From straight ahead moshcore riffs to Napalm Death-isms and back to spooky slower parts, the six strings lift this into a fun listen. All in all [Motive] offers something different, especially in the lyrics, and best suited for the hardcore/skate crowd. - Ali "The Metallian"
