History & Biography The Bayern, Germany-based Dust Bolt was founded by childhood friends as a thrash metal band in 2007. The members operated before under another name playing punk rock, playing cover versions and writing songs with German lyrics. The members’ parents helped the teenagers by paying for things, driving them to gigs and more during this period. The Chaos Possession demo arrived in 2010. The group was the Metal Battle Winner Germany for Wacken Open Air 2011. This also attracted Napalm Records, which signed the band and released a debut record in the summer of 2012. Derrick Green of Sepultura contributed vocals to one track. Although Bene was still the bassist, bass-for-hire Tom Liebing stepped in for touring in 2013. Mike The Spike did a US tour with the band in 2018. Heathen, Generation Kill and Dust Bolt toured Europe in 2013. The band also toured Europe with Dr. Living Dead!.
The grammatically dubious Awake The Riot followed in May 2014. There was a cover version of Evildead’s Future Shock. A couple of videos supported the release. Mass Confusion had the drummer billed as Nico Rayman! Otherwise, the line-up had held steady. The group appeared at Dong Open Air in 2016. The band supported Obituary, Exodus and Power Trip on The Battle Of The Bays tour in 2017. The band reported joining the tour late due to both visa issues and a delayed flight. Obituary, Pallbearer, Skeletonwitch and Dust Bolt announced a North American tour for 2018. The group ended 2018 with a tour of East Asia. Trapped In Chaos kicked off 2019, but as it turned out was the last record on Napalm. The group toured Europe with Prong, Unearth and Sinaro to begin 2020. During the sessions for Trapped In Chaos in 2018 the band had joined the self-cover version trend and rerecorded a 2010 song called Chaos Possession, which it uploaded in 2020 and called a single.
The band did upload the odd track during the intervening years, but a new album on a new label was only forthcoming in 2024. Bene had officially thrown in the towel in 2022. This was the first change of membership for the Germans. The group ended 2023 with a song and video called Disco Nnection. The band claimed it mixed metal with disco and that it was “against conventional norms adds a powerful touch, echoing the spirit of innovation & rock ‘n’ roll.” Sound & Fury was issued through AFM Records in February. The title was borrowed from Shakespeare. The sound was borrowed from rock music now. The change of direction had been signalled through the aforementioned disco song and the progressively toned down music. The band toured Germany immediately, was booked for multiple festivals like Easter Cross and Headbangers Open Air and was touring in support of Suicidal Angels in the UK that April. Dust Bolt released a live version of a 2010 demo track, Children Of Violence, through AFM Records in May 2024. It was taped in Amsterdam.
