Reviews EIGHT OF SPADES - DRIVEN BY HATE - PERVADE
For the sake of the band one is going to assume that the girl on the album’s cover is not listening to Driven By Hate. She does not seem too happy. As for the music, it is old fashioned crossover, punk, hardcore and metal. The quartet’s photo depicts three punks and a metal guy and that roughly is proportional to the band’s sound. The album begins with a metallic riff and is full of music that sounds like the more hardcore parts of Anthrax and Motorhead, but truthfully Eight Of Spades is a stretch for Metallian readers and much better suited for punk rockers and aggressive hardcore maniacs. The riffs and vocals exude aggression of the raw kind. There are two vocals present and a variety of song styles from metal to hardcore and back as listening to Ride versus Driven By Hate versus Eight Of Spades demonstrates.
This is the band’s first album and it is some hard stuff, so any 'core' fans reading Metallian should give the young act a chance. - Anna Tergel
