History & Biography The genesis of Element was in San Diego in 2004. A four-song and self-titled demo was issued in the same year following which the group signed with Brutal Bands. The debut was issued at the beginning of 2007 and featured Decrepit Birth’s KC Howard on drums. Armando Pepelis took over the vocals in 2007. Gregory was the sole man standing by the second album, which meant a drum machine and live guest musicians.
Reviews ELEMENT - AEONS PAST - BRUTAL BANDS
Element is not a progressive rock or metal band. That despite a monicker that reminds one of prog or something like Cynic or an album cover that could easily adorn an Ayreon disc. In fact, these young Californians are an out-and-out death metal band with a penchant for technical, yet savage, riffs. The band has next to no image to speak of, but the group’s horrific and rapid assault is perfectly suited for fans of Origin, Suffocation, Immolation and Diabolic. The sound is fairly clear and while the singer growls his blackened heart out the drummer (session man K C Howard of Decrepit Birth here) rattles on as if on a wagon plummeting on rails into the abyss. The drum sound - especially the bass drums - are a tad too mechanical, as if produced by Erik Rutan, but all in all the group’s use of dynamic variety is not in doubt. In a genre known for bludgeoning the listener and piling on the chords, that is a very good thing. - Ali “The Metallian”
