History & Biography Enola Gay is named after the criminal aeroplane that dropped the first atomic bomb. It was dropped by the USA on the city of Hiroshima, Japan and killed 250,000 civilians on the ground both immediately and, due to exposure, in the next several months. 'Enola Gay' was the name of the mother of the commander of this mission. In contrast, Enola Gay is a progressive hard rock band.
Enola Gay was formed by Carsten Duhme in 1987. Several demos including 1989's The Apocalyptic Dream and 1993's Spectrum Of Colours appeared. Duhme had left before the last demo. In 1994 the band could be heard on Shark's Raw, Heavy and NEW sampler. After the debut (which was released in Japan by JVC) the band played with Stratovarius, Iced Earth and others and eventually re-entered the studio to record Pressure as a quartet. Uwe Lulis of Grave Digger contributed guitar on this album. The group disbanded in 2001, made a short come-back in 2015 and several members appeared in a new band in 2016.
