History & Biography The France-based funeral doom/death band forged ahead as Epitaph between 2009 and 2016, but was forced to yield to reality of the commonness of its monicker and change to Epitaphe in 2016. In the meantime, the school friends played cover versions and moved around Europe. Demo MMXVII was distributed by Chaos Records in that year. The tracks re-appeared on the band’s I album in 2019. II was also recorded at Plastic Lobster Studio.
Epitaphe release a third full-length album, III, through Aesthetic Death (CD/LP) and Gurgling Gore (MC) on September 11th, 2026. Saxophones were de rigueur so PB was also playing saxophones. DRZ was no longer part of the line-up.
The members also initiated a band called Eventide. This was a drone act using material generated during the II session. The Eventide album of 2024 begins with a chord from II's Melancholia.
Reviews EPITAPHE - III - AESTHETIC DEATH 
Recently, a bunch of ridiculous poser "metal" bands have begun using saxophones and trumpets. Well, of course, all of a sudden other bands deem it acceptable and jump on the bandwagon. They probably all wear cowboy hats now, too, and describe their "blackened" (yeah, right!) sound as "cinematic." Enter, Epitaphe!
Joining their brothers-in-harm Imperial Triumphant, Ihsahn, Arcturus, Rivers Of Nihil, Shining, Pallbearer and more - told you, it's a trend among the crème de la crème of wimpdom - is Epitaphe.
Boring or annoying? Take your pick. Either way, it's wimpy as hell. Untight band. Muddy sound. Unconvincing growls (I had to check to see if the singer is female) mixed with clean, what would you call these, vocal harmonies? Pots and pans-ish snare sound. Oh so avant-garde! Publicity calls them "visionaries" simply because they've dumped metal for this. So ambient. So who cares?
The inferior snippets of metal are enmeshed with soft rock, background-restaurant-speaker-grade acoustic guitar picking and New Age interludes. Yikes. I almost ordered a second bottle of cheap rosé and sent back my undercooked asparagus.
Didn't like it when Wham did it with Careless Whispers and don't like it now. This crap is so bad these wimps take the sport out of criticism. - Ali "The Metallian"
