History & Biography
Excess was founded a good five years (summer of 1988) after the French heavy metal group and played thrash metal.

The band taped a concert at the Blockhaus in its Ludwigshafen hometown on the 15 of April 1989 and issued it as Live Demo in the same year. The band was a trio comprised of singer and bassist Harald, guitarist Thorsten ‘Smog’ Aschenbrenner and drummer Thomas ‘Locke’ Lösel.

Torment Of Death in the same year was a more traditional demo tape. Clausi joined on vocals. Nothing happened until a 1992 demo called Crucifixion whose cover artwork, as its title, hinted at the band’s penchant for fiction. The band threw in the towel, but members continued on in the death metal band Malignity. These were Harald Heine, Smog, Clausi and drummer Thomas Lösel. Several members would go on to better-known groups.

The band attempted the traditional reunion in 2014. Mystic Circle’s Meesters was on drums.

Golden Core Records, where Andreas Neuderth had worked, issued an Excess compilation called Crucifixion: Complete Excess in 2023. The label had also placed the band on the German Hardrock & Heavy Metal Rarities 1978-1998 Volume 1 compilation in 2021. Andreas had also been in Sudden Darkness with whom Excess shared a rehearsal room. Sudden Darkness’ guitarist Volker Faust taped the Torment Of Death demo.
