History & Biography
Ex Deo is the Roman themed side-project of Maurizio Iacano, the singer for Kataklysm. The idea came to fruition in 2008 and Iacano signed the band, as per contract, to Nuclear Blast, following which the label issued the album in 2009. The rest of Kataklysm completes the side-project that was produced by Jean-Francois Dagenais of... Kataklysm. Ironically for the band, a promotional video was shot in Serbia. An autumn tour supporting Hypocrisy and Ensiferum was announced in North America. Furthering his New York City connections, Kataklysm and Ex Deo singer Maurizio Iacono announced a pizzeria joint venture in Chicago in 2010.

The man/band announced Caligula as the title for its 2011 album. The album was delayed. The man/band would subsequently sign to Napalm Records. Nuclear Blast issued the first album. Ex Deo approximately means 'created out of God.' In 2012, Rock The Nation touring Agency came to North America through Maurizio Iacono. Century Media America would provide marketing support when booking bands and for the roster. In 2012, Ex Deo canceled its involvement in the US leg of Paganfest America Part III tour with Turisas, Alestorm, Arkona and Huntress. The band claimed the cancellation was due to members being busy elsewhere. The band was booked for the 2025 edition of 70000 Tons Of Metal. Ex Deo issued the Year Of The Four Emperors EP through Reigning Phoenix Music in January 2025. The band then embarked on a tour of Europe that month in support of Dark Funeral and Fleshgod Apocalypse before heading to North America in the spring in support of Septicflesh and Vltimas. Iacono managed a couple of these bands.

In addition to Dagenais, drummer Olivier Beaudoin of Kataklysm would be in the band and would return for Live work in 2025 having departed in 2020. The band offers a stage set with Roman paraphernalia to complement the lyrics.
