History & Biography
The occult doom and goth band announced its arrival with a self-titled demo in 1987. Tribute To Death of 1991 was a longer demo. The group recorded and released another demo, entitled Symphonies Of Decomposed Human Flesh, in 1992. The Genoa, Italy-based act split up in 1996, but of course mounted a return in 2010. A demo called Return To Golgotha was issued, but the hill was too steep to climb and the act separated again. The next reformation was in 2016 and was followed by the Crimson Evil Eyes demo. Singer Fabrizio "Jason" Bottaro lasted until 2019. By now half a dozen singers, guitarists and drummers have come and gone. Singer Max Cottica from the 1990s briefly returned, but soon decamped again.

Italy-based doom act ExpiatoriA had a record called Shadows, which was released on CD by Diamonds Prod and LP by Black Widow Records in late 2022. Drummer Enrico Meloni joined after the recording’s completion. David Krieg and Edoardo Napoli left in 2023. The band was invited to Church Of Crow Doom Fest II in 2024. Keyboardist Flux left in 2024. The 2024 live album was recorded in Genoa, Italy. It featured singer Angelex, guitarist Roberto Lucanato (who like Krieg came from Hastur) and drummer Enrico Meloni. The band appeared at Festival Delle Periferie 2025. Voci Notturne was a 2026 EP split with Il Segno Del Comando.

ExpiatoriA was marking nearly 40 years of history in 2026 with A History In Three Acts, a self-cover version release featuring music from every incarnation of the band, alongside a new track, The Incredible Worm Man, which previewed an upcoming studio album. The release, which was published by DIamonds Prod., coincided with the band's appearance at the Luppolo In Rock Festival on July 18, 2026, and featured the return of original vocalist Massimo 'Max' Cottica on two tracks.

The band stylizes its name to ExpiatoriA.
