History & Biography
The London, UK-based group was founded in 2014 and had a 2015 single called Lake Of The Dead. The band claimed to be black metal band, but had a keyboardist and a Cradle Of Filth influence. Formicarius’ debut full-length album, Black Mass Ritual, was out through the band’s new label Schwarzdorn Production. Formicarius released its second album for Schwarzdorn Production on Friday the 13th of September. The album was called Rending The Veil Of Flesh. Drums on this album were performed by Kevin Paradis of Benighted. Drummer Valdr of Sathamel joined the act in 2019. The band split up in December of 2021. A livestream was the last performance. Bassist Simon joined De Profundis in 2025.

Several members played together in Phyrexia and Premature Birth. The Formicarius was a book about witches and witchcraft written by German theologian Johannes Nider between 1436 and 1438. The book's title is Latin for 'ant colony', an allusion to the Bible's Proverbs 6:6, which states "Go to the ant, you sluggard; Consider its ways and be wise," suggesting ants are perfectly ordered.
