History & Biography Gorky Park was a Russian hard rock band which was formed by composer Stas Namin in 1987 and whose break came when they opened the Bon Jovi /Scorpions/etc. anti-drug Peace Festival in Russia in 1989.
They furthered the connection when Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora of the band Bon Jovi assisted on their next album. The band toured the college circuit (sponsored by the Make A Difference Foundation which ran the Peace
Festival) in the USA before disappearing. The band had two videos, one for Bang and one for a cover of The Who's My Generation. The latter song was the band's contribution to the Stairway To Heaven/Highway To Hell compilation. The band fell victim to internal disagreements, lost its singer and the bassist took over singing for the second record. A keyboardist was added and so forth, but the band was soon forgotten.
The band may have hailed from Russia, but things operate the same all over the world. The group has made several comebacks and reunions including in 2019 and 2022. The band has been comprised of a number of Russian and American musicians most recently. Gorky Park appeared at SNC. 35 Years festival at its namesake site in 2022.
Gorky Park is a park in central Moscow, the capital of Russia. It is named after socialist writer and thinker Maxim Gorky.
