History & Biography
This act was founded in 2004. Chang and Takafumi met during the last Discordance Axis tour of Japan in 2001. The two started a heavy metal band, Hayaino Daisuki. GridLink was a secondary effort that followed that project. It featured Japanese drummer Terada Takiya of Melt-Banana and bassist Okada Keisuke (both of Glossectomy) at first before Jon was invited to join and released an album called Amber Gray in 2008. Okada, a sound engineer was supposed to mix this record. Three members were Japanese before the rhythm section departed. The 2008 album was promised as early as for 2005 initially. The guitarist was Japanese man Matsubara Takafumi and the cover artwork featured a man in a noh mask. The act was working on this record from the end of 2005 until the end of 2006. Upon joining Jon Chang brought a few tracks he had kept in his back pocket for an unrealized Discordance Axis album, and follow-up project War Chalking, with him.

Singer Chang ran a nascent anime and video studio called Studio Grey. In the interim, the act was booked for the GrindAid skate festival in Osaka, Japan, which was scheduled for May 2006. The second album came in 2011. The record added second guitarist Steve Procopio and a bassist called Teddy Patterson. The Japanese inspiration continued. Longhena switched gears and featured a serf from Metallian Towers on its cover. The second guitarist was gone and former Assück singer Paul Pavlovich appeared as a guest. Matsubara suffered a stroke in 2014 and was paralysed in the left hand. The man went into rehab and the band went into hiatus. This ended in 2022 and Matsubara was ready to grind.

USA-based grindcore group Gridlink released an album, entitled Coronet Juniper, through Willowtip Records in September 2023. Mauro Cordoba was on bass. This record included “karaoke” versions of its tracks as well. This idea was lifted from many japanese albums of course.

The band announced two back to back concerts for late October 2023 with different sets and merchandise for each night. These were billed as farewell, for a long time, concerts. The guitarist was flying in from Japan. Takafumi was involved in half a dozen acts despite his health issue and tendonitis and Jon was busy with his studio and businesses.

The band’s lyrics often touched upon manga and comic books, as well as science fiction.
