History & Biography The doom metal band was founded as a studio project in 2017 and managed to snag Solitude Aeternus singer Robert Lowe in 2019. The act had been Brad's idea. He also wrote the lyrics. The band's first release was the 2019 demo From Dissension To Avowal. From Dissension To Avowal was a five-song concept that took the listener on a journey through the five phases of experiencing grief. The band intended to play live, but then the pandemic occurred. A Dutch concern issued the group's debut in 2021. The men were invited to The Maryland Doom Fest in 2022. Lowe was gone by the time the 2023 demo In Times Of Woe was issued however.
Doom metal band Grief Collector has a new album called The Death Of All Dreams, through Nine Records in 2026.
Reviews GRIEF COLLECTOR - THE DEATH OF ALL DREAMS - NINE
If metal fans were asked to name a few true doom metal releases, free of foreign influences and bereft of commercial elements like keyboards, female vocals (K&F), horns and what have you, from these new bands and labels that are infesting the scene, they would probably search their memory in vain. These are the times we live in. Publicists, labels and bands call anything and everything metal, black metal, death metal and, yes, doom metal; but when the CD goes into the player, we find ourselves listening to weak and defiled impostors that stand in metal's stead. We are being lied to so some poser can be in a band in the scene, some fool of a publicist can make $50 spamming his or her fellow whores and a record company proprietor can conduct business without having to be confined to dealing with a genre called metal that, by all rights, is not for the masses.
This is why The Death Of All Dreams is welcome. Not only is the band's music impressive in its own right, but also the trio deals in pure doom metal.
Accompanying a good production and an exceptionally loud bass is an album that runs for 56 minutes. The album is mostly authentic doom metal, but could equally be described as a mix of Solitude Aeternus' second and third records and Nevermore. The band, which once featured former Solitude Aeternus singer Rob Lowe, now has a vocalist who is as capable as - and reminiscent of - his predecessor. Singer Julian Küster delivers dramatic vocals that straddle the line between Lowe and a lower register Warrel Dane of Nevermore. The lyrics are pure dismal doom. This album doesn't deal with loneliness. It delivers Cosmic Loneliness. The vocals are often doubled up and the lead guitars, while scarce, are occasionally present. Acoustic guitars are tastefully done and add flair to the proceedings. The song Agony Eater takes the music from Nevermore-esque to solitude to the essence of metal and the depths of doom in the space of one minute. Wah-wah guitars appear during the 47th minute, but the transition between the song Agony Eater and Terminal Lucidity is somehow botched on the CD. This, along with yet another pointless cover version, are minor speed bumps on the road to doom and gloom that the band paves on this album. - Ali "The Metallian"
