GRIEVERS - THE ETERNAL PLEASURE OF REVENGE - SLIPTRICK
This 26-minute EP is the Italian quintet's first release since 2010's Reflecting Evil. Four concept songs based on a nightmare and a face-to-face chance to avenge it starts with Chapter One: Ade. The opener starts slightly catchy and aggressive. The start stop riffing that is a hallmark of 'core metal doesn't allow the song to flow and makes it sound over-produced but the guitar playing of Andrea Parafioriti and Roberto Palmiero add a competent element. Almost a classical or experimental feel at times. Luca Croci and his bass are not left out of the sound either. Chapter Two: Blood Lord brings in more speed and Michele Spallieri allows himself more time to growl and scream. The song flows and moves along better than the opener. The almost nine-minute Chapter Three: Revenge starts with a short acoustic section followed by something that can be termed melodic death metal. The length of the song leaves room for a slow instrumental passage in which Parafioriti and Palmiero shine again. The Final Chapter: Face To Face declares that “We are the sons of death angels and the arena will catch fire in the act of revenge.” The song itself is more heavy than fast. Some seven years of reflection has produced ample amount of hate. – Anna Tergel
