Reviews GRIN - ACID GODS - TLD
A duo without guitars. Anticipated hating this as much as the dreaded Necromantia, but no one is that bad and neither is Grin. Acid Gods is certainly sludge, but the music is not exactly metal. Think more along the lines of High Tension meets Godflesh. There is a distorted bass, booming drums and processed chanting standing in for vocals. This is an album of liturgy if the religion were ophiolatry and the practitioners were acid tripping serial murderers. The song Nocturno has an obvious doom vibe with riffs that are pseudo-reminiscent of Black Sabbath. Silvers is longer and goes through several coils ranging from the atmospheric to Saint Vitus. Wild Eyes is less a song and more a modern movie sound effect.
The vocals are distorted, the music proceeding mid-paced processed and the vibe, well, untested. One last thing: The band must possess the world's most ironic monicker. - Ali "The Metallian"
