History & Biography
The progressive metal band was founded by Jon Bodan in 2001 and released Blind Eyes To The Sky In 2002. The demo contained three songs. A demo called Deliver The Suffering followed in 2004. The band appeared at ProgPower USA. American label Nightmare Records issued the band’s debut album, albeit in 2008 only. The band featured clean and harsh vocals with the latter being performed by Kris Maltenieks. Sean Shields was the main vocalist. Pamela Moore, known from Queensrÿche's Operation Mindcrime was a guest contributor. The band had already made it to ProgPower as a last-minute addition in 2007. VandenPlas could not make it into the USA and the Halcyon Boys were drafted. The group climbed the stage at Rocklahoma 2008 festival and its label’s showcase in 2009. The follow-up appeared in 2010 and featured Steve Braun on vocals. Sean Shields and the band had parted ways due to creative differences in late 2009. The group and Fozzy toured the UK in May 2010. Bodan also had to contend with cancer at this time. Simultaneously, in late 2010, the band cancelled a planned tour of Europe with Stuck Mojo (with members from Fozzy) due to the illness. Shields left after getting married and relocating away from the rest of the members. There was some sniping back and forth at that juncture. The band signed on to IntroMental management. Braun was pulled from a covers’ band.

The mysterious humanoid from the last release also appeared on the IndoctriNation EP of 2011. Guitarist Sergio Quesada joined in 2012, but did not last. He was put on trial later when in Khaotika as he was the driver in a fatal accident that killed three including a band-mate while on tour. The band was booked to tour with pop rockers Delain and subsequently was booked to tour with U.D.O. in the USA in April 2013. A full-length appeared in the summer of 2014. The group managed to grab the opening slot for the Saxon and Skid Row European tour in 2014. The band had opened for Saxon in the US the year before opening for U.D.O.. Halcyon Way was booked for Metal Millennium XT Festival in Bogotá, Colombia. Drummer Aaron Baumoel joined the fold in 2016. The band opened for Queensrÿche in the USA in 2016.

The group switched to Agonia Records, better known for its extreme metal release schedule, and released Bloody But Unbowed in 2018. The band had switched management to The Artery Foundation earlier and the company had connected with Agonia. The group toured Europe with Angra, Avelion and Operation: Mindcrime in 2018. In the meantime, Nightmare Records back in the USA had curtailed its activities. An acoustic version of the song Blame from Bloody But Unbowed was taped and streamed during the coronavirus outbreak by vocalist Steve Braun and guitarist Max Eve.

The group and Sanctuary toured Europe in 2023. Halcyon Way had a three-track digital EP entitled Night Crawling through Agonia Records in 2024. The EP featured two new compositions and a cover of a Miley Cyrus song. The band recorded an album in 2025.

Halcyon Way was actually the name of a street near the founding line-up’s rehearsal location. Bodan is a Christian and cites influences from Believer and Deliverance among others.
