History & Biography
Hanging Garden is Finland-based so it goes without saying that the act's metal is tainted with goth and K&F (or is that the other way around?). The band was founded by singer Ari Nieminen (who left in 2010) and bassist, lyricist and keyboardist Matti Reinola (who left in 2011). In fact, several members had departed around 2010. Two members were also in Grayscale. Original guitarist Saku Manninen came from Casket Garden. The band's first release was Promo 2006 and came two years following the act's founding, although a full line-up had been assembled only in 2005. The demo was presented at something called the Finnish Metal Expo.

Spikefarm signed the band and released Inherit The Eden in 2007. The line-up was the aforementioned singer Ari Nieminen, guitarists Mikko Kolari and Saku Manninen, bassist and keyboardist Matti Reinola and drummer Janne Jukarainen. The group was booked for the Lost In Music Festival in late 2007. The group was billed at the Spinefeast At Sea in 2008. TEOTWAWKI (i.e. 'The End of The World As We Know It') was issued at the end of 2009. Nothing changed however. Antti Ruokola was on drums. Jussi Hämäläinen was the second guitarist. A second keyboardist, Nino Hynninen, meant the band had as many synth players as Alphaville. At Every Door was issued by Lifeforce Records. Toni Hatakka was singing. Jussi Kirves was on bass. Blackout Whiteout was supported through a video for the song Embers. This album was considered poppier than before. A couple of EPs arrived before the full-length, I Am Become. Hanging Garden recorded and filmed a live performance for five songs at keyboardist Nino's place in the woods. Sami Forsstén was on drums now. The Backwoods Sessions would be followed by a Backwoods Sessions II in 2019. Into That Good Night pushed new female singer Riikka Hatakka as a co-vocalist. Against The Dying Of The Light was the 2020 EP. Skeleton Lake was supported through a video for the song Winter's Kiss. Drummer Antti Ruokola returned after an absence of seven years in 2022. A third guitarist was Mr. Kimmo Tukiainen as of 2023.

The Garden was the name of Hanging Garden’s album through Agonia Records in 2023. It was produced by Jussi Hämäläinen (vocals and guitars) and Jarno Hänninen and mixed and mastered by the latter man at D-studio. The band was invited to play at the Dark River Festival in 2024. Finland-based death/doom act Hanging Garden had an album called Isle Of Bliss through Agonia Records on 20.03.2026. There was a video for the song To Outlive The Nine Ravens. The band was booked for Nummirock in Finland.

The historical Babel is famed for having a hanging garden.
