History & Biography
Hemdale was an Ohio-based grindcore act which was lead by drummer Rowe, the man who simultaneously ran underground's Visceral Productions label. The band was called Choke between 1992 and 1993. The band issued several demos and EPs beginning in 1994 and was on the verge of signing a deal - with Relapse possibly - when the man and the band threw in the towel ostensibly because Rowe wanted to pursue a college degree. One of the band's releases was a split with Exit 13. Rowe would surface years later as the co-proprietor of Archetype Media. Several of the bands on Visceral Productions, like Exhumed, had ended up on Relapse Records.

In the meanwhile, Relapse Records had issued a compilation called Red Jackson in 2002. This compilation was issued on vinyl by Horror Pain Gore Death in 2025. This edition featured three exclusive songs and a few numbers taped at a radio show. Brad Boatright mastered this edition. Another compilation was 2024's Can You Smell The Stench???. The band itself (actually Matthew J. Rositano) had regrouped in 2012 and 2013. There were several split releases all featuring part-time members. These included drummer Andy Sanchez (Nuclear Hellfrost and Nak'ay) and Isaac Horne (Ethereal) and guitarist Karl Rast (also of Nuclear Hellfrost and Nak'ay).
