History & Biography
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia-based High Tension is a crossover band for fans of acts like Sick Of It All, Melvins and Power Trip, which mixes pop sensibilities into its repertoire, and was founded in 2012. The band's founding line-up was Indonesian-born Karina Utomo (vocals) and Ash Pegram (guitar) from Young And Restless, Matt Weston (bass) from The Nation Blue and drummer Damian Coward from Love Like...Electrocution.

A self-titled demo arrived in 2012. The band’s 2013 demo Death Beat was re-issued by Cooking Vinyl. It was also nominated for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal album at the 2014 ARIA Awards, which is an Australian recording association. Drummer Damian Coward left in 2013, returned in 2014 and departed again in 2015. Bully came in the summer of 2015, while Purge came in the summer of 2018. Mike Deslandes also taped Purge. The album reflected on the purge of communists in Indonesia that lead to the massacre of thousands in the 1960s. The band played at the Download festival in Australia in 2019. Last sign of life was the announcement of the band's participation at Melbourne Music Week in 2021. Joshua Wells & Karina Utomo was opening for Health in Australia in 2024.
