History & Biography Hype was an Oakville, Canada-based crossover band. Brian named the band after a dog that had rushed him. The band released its debut independently and got its name out on the hardcore circuit before signing to Fringe in Canada and We Bite in Germany. Don LeBeuf of Reuben Kincade Productions, a Toronto concert promoter managed Hype. The group appeared on the Ontario – Yours To Discover! compilation tape and toured Canada. John Barbisan joined in 1985. His band, named Ignorance, had actually opened for Hype. John was also the editor of a fanzine called Pirates Of Doom. He had featured Hype. LeBeuf also wrote for the zine. The second album was supported through a Canadian tour as well.
John's younger brother, David Barbisan - who died in a house fire in 1994 - replaced Leverton in 1987. Hypbomb was released after the band's demise, which had come in 1989 giving the band a six-year run.
