Reviews KAIVS - AFTER THE FLESH - BRUTAL
One thing that After The Flesh has is the heaviest distortion possible. It is like Dismember, Disrupted and Fleshcrawl went ultra. In the same vein as Abysmal Whore and neither the fastest nor the tightest, Kaivs is instead often fast enough, but interspersed with slow to midtempo chugging complete with Grave’s crunchiness. The only break a poser will catch on this is the spoken word interludes or the overdubbed clips which the band so loves and probably goes overboard with.
Kaivs is guttural death with no hint of compromise and fans of submission to the mainstream, variety, originality and other buzzwords of the wimp, who advocate for dilution, will fear this buzzsaw blade. For the rest of us, Kaivs’ features are a part of the attraction. Sepulchrist, one of the three tracks carried over from the demo, is one example with a simple, but satisfyingly effective, wall of sound, which is enhanced by the beat of a morbid drum. On the other hand, are the metre and rhyme on Beyond The Autopsy supposed to be in jest?
Dirty, muddy, grimy and utterly brutal this is and nothing else. One thinks this is what it would have sounded like had Entombed not wimped out and instead been steadfast and advanced its craft. This is perfectly placed on a label called Brutal Records. Heck, play this in a cemetery and the corpses will pray for the day the music dies. - Ali “The Metallian”
