History & Biography Named after the curved Japanese sword and packing the scene-approved Japanese influences, Sweden-based Katana was formed in 2003/2004. The early singer was Disdain's Dan Bäck. The early drummer was Disdain's Christian Börjesson. The katana brandishing musicians issued a demo, called Night Avengers, in 2005. Heart Of Tokyo was the 2006 demo. The title track was reissued by Listenable Records in 2011. First, however, was the 2008 demo Rock 'n' Roll Disaster, which featured… Heart Of Tokyo. Regardless, the band was billed at Armageddon Open Air in Sweden in 2007.
The band Osukaru was founded by former Katana guitarist and keyboardist Oz Osukaru, who had left Katana in 2008, in the autumn of 2009 and a line-up was assembled in 2010. Singer Johan Bernspång and guitarist Tobias Karlsson of Katana were with that band to start. Katana though appeared at the Sweden Rock Festival. Listenable issued the group's debut album in 2011. It was called Heads Will Roll. The band appeared on a Close-Up Magazine compilation called New Wave Of Swedish Heavy Metal. 2012 brought a demo, called and spelled Kubilai Khan. Storms Of War quickly followed and included tracks like Kubilai Khan and The Samurai Returns. The group toured Europe with Civil War in 2013. It was back to demoland and a release called The Greatest Victory in 2015. Of course, songs included Yakuza and Shogun. Patrik Essén left. Amnesia guitarist Christoffer Cederstrand joined, but a hiatus ensued.
