Reviews KATEDRA - UGNIKALNIS - ATRA MUSICA
In these lands, Katedra is as unknown a band as it gets probably and they have been around for over twenty years. The band has not been releasing albums the whole time (only has two) and went away for a while but of course, the group’s base of Lithuania probably did not help. So, what do these guys sound like? Firstly, they can play and compose quite well, thank-you very much. Secondly, the style here is thrashing metal with a touch of hardcore and some progressive elements. The first song on the album quickly goes at it with a pounding drum, constant toms and vocals that shout, scream and yell as though it is 1989 all right. No wonder, for the album’s title means 'volcano' in English. That is great and right on time for there is a thrash metal resurgence on the go of which the band can take advantage. A couple of the songs have that slower Slayer groove and guitar (good) and a couple become crude and degenerate into hardcore mode (bad). Whatever the case, the band is capable overall and another good bite for thrash collectors, completists or purists. - Anna Tergel
