History & Biography The Athens, Greece-based band has delivered its heathen brand of metal since 1993, yet has as much a profile as brains or decency in the skull of a Golden Dawn/Greek Solution follower. The band’s music is naturally underground, but the labels are complicit with the lack of promotion or publicity. The band itself seems content. Greek titles have hindered international appeal, but most of all the transitory nature of the membership has made the act more of a practice session for musicians rather than an actual group.
The act was founded by Therthonax/Mentor and soon joined by Necroabyssious and Eskarth who both departed in 1994. Singer Archemoros was in the band from 1994 to 2003. Therthonax would end up handling vocals, guitar, bass and the Kanonaki over the years. Promo ‘93 was the first release. Cacophonous Records released the band’s split single with Sigh. Several singles and Demo ‘95 followed. From there albums, mini albums and compilations have come fast and furious and the group has housed as many members as there are fat calories in a cheap gyros. It is nearly impossible to count.
The band and Zemial opened on tour for Kampfar in 2007, which was a reunion given how Mentor was a previous Zemial member. Singer Porphyrion left in 2008 after three years in the band, but returned in 2015. The group released a live DVD called Athenian Echoes Over Paris in 2010 with material from 2008. Those Opposed Records released the To Uranus EP in 2010. This one contained new and old material. It goes without saying that Swiss drum taxi Sergio Da Silva was in Kawir too as he completed his tour of a pay cheque from every band on every continent. The band gave a 20th anniversary concert in Athens, Greece in 2013. War Of The Giants was a 2022 demo. Pagan records reissued seven of the band’s releases in 2022. 30th anniversary shows came in 2023.
Kydoimos (or ΚΥΔΟΙΜΟΣ) was the newest full-length by veteran Greece-based band Kawir in 2024. It was released through Soulseller Records in April. There was a video for the song Echetlaeus.
