History & Biography Wales’ Kooga was formed in 1982 as Preacher before changing monicker and signing to a French label across the water. The monicker changed in 1985 and the band began emphasizing originals as opposed to cover versions. The hard rock band could not obtain another deal, however, and would again change its name, this time to Cougar.
Guitarist Ian Palfrey was replaced by Keyboard player Neil Garland in 1983. The band would release an EP on its own and play the third day on Sunday at The Reading Festival in 1987 (with Alice Cooper and Status Quo), but with Howells and Garland following each other out of the door things would soon crumble to disintegration. The band did open for Saxon in 1988 however. Two members reunited in Hand Of Dimes years later.
