History & Biography
Kublai Khan was the thrash metal band of former Megadeth guitarist Handevidt beginning in 1984. He had relocated to Minnesota (ironically the home state of Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson and where the two had a band called Goz at an early age) from Los Angeles and formed Kublai Khan.

The band issued a demo called Clash Of The Swords before obtaining a contract with Shark Records. Par for the course the album found no promotion and the band split up two years thereafter. The band appeared at Metal Mania '87 alongside acts like King Diamond, Destruction and Sacrifice.

Idso and Handevidt reformed the band in 2003. Exit Only Records reissued the band’s only album.

The next reformation came in 2017. Joe Conrad was on bass. Handevidt was back and Christopher Hensley was the second guitarist. The band opened for Ellefson in 2019.

Kublai Khan was the founder of the Yuan dynasty and emperor of Mongolia in the 13th century.
