History & Biography Hailing from Logroño, La Rioja in northern Spain, Kverna emerged in 2020. The name Kverna ('Cavern') came first. The idea was that humanity had returned to the caves: primitive beings living through a new Stone Age, as the world experiences a reset brought about by a meteorite. The members came from bands such as Nitrako and Depinfango (guitarist Jarry), Tripalium and Armario Empotrado (singer Meri), Puerta Caída and Acumulo Despropósitos (drummer Papi), Navajazo En El Bazo and Beat Blues División (bassist César), as well as Tiranë and Superfly Band (both Papi and César). The four musicians created a sound described as a blend of sludge and stoner infused with D-beat. The band's first compositions began taking shape in 2020, but it was in 2022 that they recorded their studio debut with the demo Craternario, while also performing live for the first time at the anniversary celebration of Squat Villatruño in their hometown of Logroño.
Over the following years, the band focused on live performances throughout northern Spain, playing across La Rioja, Euskadi, Burgos, Cantabria and Aragón. Between 2024 and 2025, Kverna recorded eight new tracks that would become the debut full-length, Chiflodocus. The band crossed borders for the first time in 2025, performing two shows in Braga and Lisbon, Portugal. More shows followed. At the same time, the band developed its dinosaur imagery. The idea centred on the Earth's reconstruction: dinosaurs once again roaming the planet and taking part in the final extinction of the human race. This is reflected in the album artwork, where a human can be seen impaled on a dinosaur's tail spikes, a manifestation of nature's revolt against mankind. Chiflodocus was released in 2026 by Selvajaria Records on CD and Violence In The Veins on LP.
