History & Biography Lawnmower Deth hailed from Mansfield in very jolly old England and was a thrash metal band with roots in Scrawm with mucho humour in the vein of Acid Reign et al. The band issued a demo called It's A Lot Less Bovver Than A Hovver in 1987 which was produced by Andy Sneap and one named Mowdear in 1988 before issuing a split record with Metal Duck. The humour was obvious including tracks called Mown To Bits, Lawnmower's Rampage In The Jungle, Watch Out Granma, Here Comes A Lawnmower and the classic Tits + Fanny. The band issued several albums courtesy of Earache Records before throwing in the towel in 1995. Lee ended up working directly for Earache. Lawnmower Deth, which reunited in 2008 for shows with Bullet For My Valentine, completed an appearance at the UK’s Download Festival and at Pitz in Milton Keynes in 2009.
The Dillinger Escape Plan, Lawnmower Deth, S.S.S., Hecate Enthroned and Fen were confirmed for the sixth instalment of the U.K.'s Damnation Festival, which was taking place on Saturday, November 6th of 2010 at Leeds University Union in the UK. Unleashed In The East… Midlands was a 2018 video and CD recorded at the Download Festival 2018. A London, England show for December 2021 was cancelled due to the pandemic. Blunt Cutters was a new album and announced for January 2022. Lawnmower Deth, Catalysis, Gorgonchrist, Master’s Call, Suffering and others were booked for the Beermageddon festival in the UK in August 2024.
Despite its humorous image and lyrics the band succeeded in playing with the likes of Voivod and Death in its heyday. Ironically, the band’s third album was its most serious topically and least successful.
