LES ÉKORCHÉS - IV DÉMONS - INDICA
Quebec supergroup Les Ékorchés returns with its second record, one that continues with the band's acoustic metal/hardcore raison d'etre but also expands past the purely visceral aggression of the collective's debut. Featuring Michel "Away" Langevin (Voivod), Marc Vaillancourt (B.A.R.F.), Pat Gordon (Ghoulunatics) and Philippe Mius d'Entremont (Maruka), Les Ékorchés draws upon the combined experience of its members to create loud music that is unique its aforementioned acoustic capacity (and via the presence of d'Entremont's cello playing), but is also ready to infiltrate your brain: the songs on IV Démons, for all their bluster, never forget follow verse-chorus-verse and, as a result, get stuck in your head, willingly or not. Though a more dynamic and complex record than its adrenaline-junkie predecessor, IV Démons is still filled with enough fire to fulfill the awesome cover art's skull 'n' spikes mandate. Add the band's by-design, slang French lyrical approach, and IV Démons is as regionally authentic as it gets. - James Tape
