History & Biography
Helsinki-based Leverage considers itself a heavy band, but leverages pop instruments. After a 2005 demo, the band was promoted with a CD in Inferno magazine in 2006 before issuing its debut through Elements Music. An EP, called Follow Down That River, leveraged several Japanese-only tracks. Blind Fire appeared on Frontiers, but Circus Colossus was on Spinefarm. A series of Finnish shows followed. Finland’s Leverage permanently replaced bassist Pekka Lampinen with Sami Norrbacka in late 2009. The latter man had been touring with Leverage.

Notwithstanding that, the band went silent for a decade. The Devil’s Turn was a 2018 EP through Frontiers again. Blom was on vocals and Salovaara was on second guitar. A full-length arrived in 2019. The band appeared at the Tuska Festival 2019. Above The Beyond was preceded by a single called Starlight. Kimmo Blom died of cancer in 2022. Paolo Ribaldini was the next singer as of 2023.

Reviews

LEVERAGE - BLIND FIRE - BLISTERING
Leverage is a melodic hard rock band from the northern climes of Finland, but there is nothing icy about the band’s music. The group’s delivery is smooth, but the emotion is palpable and the sound serene and insistent. The group has its share of hard rockers that hit the right spots as well as its slower rockers and ballads. In fact, Shadow In The rain begins the album with a touch of modern power metal. The emotion and the pomp come to the fore in the latter segments. Sentenced and Don’t Touch The Sun display a lot of emotion especially on behalf of singer Pekka Heino. His voice is confident and clear. The second best ingredient is the soaring and loud lead guitars played with dexterity. The band has good songs, a high melodic quotient and a touch of the Rainbow. Oh, by the way, can you spot the album’s name on the cover? - Ali “The Metallian”
