History & Biography The thrash metal group Lich King was founded as a solo act by Tom Martin in 2004 and released a demo, called Necromantic Maelstrom, the year after. The song line-up was expanded and self-released with the same name a year later. Additionally, Stormspell Records gave the thing a release too. The follow-up came in 2008 and was called Toxic Zombie Onslaught. Non-toxic zombies felt the album was exclusionary. However, the Logopathy Association Of USA hailed the song title Attack Of The Wrath Of The War Of The Death Of The Strike Of The Sword Of The Blood Of The Beast. The act lost two guitarists in 2010. The limited edition Super Retro Thrash was an instrumental self-cover version album with a NES game artwork. Joe Nickerson switched to guitar from bass, then back to bass and again to guitar later. He and Nick Timney were alternating instruments seemingly. The regular releases ended with Born Of The Bomb.
The band’s series of self-titled tracks continued when it uploaded Lich King V: Stalemate in 2013. Do-Over not only parodied DRI, but also added more self-cover versions. Tom Martin departed the singer position in 2015, but continued writing songs for the band. Ryan Taylor took over before Zach Smith becoming the vocalist in 2019. The Omniclasm was a 2017 demo. It included both Lich King V: Stalemate and Lich King VI. Mort Productions repressed it in 2020.
Exciter, Vio-Lence, Coroner and Lich King were conducting a mini-tour of the USA in the spring of 2022. This was preceded by a US tour With Stonecutters And Toxic Ruin. The band played at 70000 Tons Of Metal and in Puerto Rico in 2024. Nervosa had a headline tour of the USA and Canada beginning in late August 2024. The tour featured support from Lich King and Hatriot. The band was booked for RPM Fest in 2025. First, however, singer Zach was in a major motorcycle accident that required two months of healing. Nick Timney was there as well after his back and forth. Gama Bomb and Lich King were to conduct the Eurothrash 26 tour in that spring.
The band professes to retro thrash metal with a sense of humour. Lich is a World Of Warcraft character. The band runs a Patreon and collects money.
