History & Biography
This Manes was founded at the same time in 1993 as the other Norwegian Manes, which transformed into Ved Buens Ende. The band was founded in Trondheim by former Perfifa members Cernunus and Sargatanas and remained a duo until 1999. The demos were Maanens Natt (1993), Ned I Stillheten (1994) and Til Kongens Grav De Døde Vandrer (1995). Hammerheart Records of The Netherlands picked the band up and released the debut record Under Ein Blodraud Maane. The album featured demo tracks. The same label had already rereleased the demos. Former Atrox singer Tommy Sebastian Halseth came in 2002 and left in 2003 without appearing on an album.

Vilosophe came on a new label and four years later. The label called its style, Neo Avant Metal. This record boasted a line-up of five, but Sargatanas was gone. The style was more electronic. More and more Atrox members were incorporated. 1993-1994 was the name of a demo compilation for the band in 2005. Singer Emil Sporsheim came and went. The [view] EP of 2006 featured a cover and remixes. Third album on the third label: How The World Came To An End came in 2007 and jumped the gun. Tor-Arne Helgesen drummed here. Another remix EP was 2008’s Reinvention. It was issued independently. The band went on hiatus as of January 1 2008 and members joined a project called kkoagulaa.

The band next embarked on taping anything and everything be it demos, rehearsals, remixed, instrumental versions and making them available as compilations online. In a bout of honesty one compilation was even called New Shit Has Come To Light. Analysts calculate that the band beat Deep Purple, Metallica and Dream Theater in the release sweepstakes in 2011. Simultaneously, the band became Manii for two years. The reversion occurred in 2013 and so Manes was back.

Rune Hoemsnes returned on drums in 2013. Fourth album on a fourth label and Be All End All came out in late 2014. The band had signed to its new French label in 2013. The band had announced two releases earlier, Invention - Or How The World Came To An End And Why We Did It and Be All//End All. Tor-Arne Helgesen returned on drums and replaced the man who had replaced him. Atrox singer Rune Folgerø came and went and Asgeir Hatlen would rejoin. Slow Motion Death Sequence featured Chilean singer Ana Carolina Ojeda on one track. The album addressed death as a theme. Darkness Shall Rise Productions of Germany issued a boxed set of cassettes with shirts and patches of the band in 2022. The band was announced for Brutal Assault 2023, but cancelled again as it had done so in the past. Manes signed a deal with Avantgarde Music in 2024 and announced an album, called To Burn Is To Shine, which was slated for 2025.

The band should be approached with caution by metal fans. Later releases incorporate goth, new wave and alternative rock.

Manes translates into ‘ghosts” in English from Latin.
