History & Biography
The group was formed in French Canada in 1990 by the Mongrain brothers and soon issued a demo, oddly called, Ostrogoth. The Hopeless Hopes demo from 1997 was re-issued by Galy Records in 2006. Warpzone was a demo in 1999 before being called Warp Zone in 2000. Skyscraper, partly belonging to singer Iacono of Kataklysm, issued the band’s debut album. Subsequently, Francois Mongrain would work with Kataklysm. Thus, the band’s first label release was a live record. It was taped in Rouyn-Noranda. Another local label, Galy Records, would pick up the band’s debut studio album. The Havoc In Quebec City DVD was issued in 2008.

Daniel Mongrain would become Voivod’s guitarist in 2008. He had played with Gorguts in 1999 and and Cryptopsy in 2004. The Canadians were one of many Martyrs running around the worldwide metal scene. Drummer Pat Hamelin left the band in the spring of 2012. The Canadian act had gone into hiatus.

Dan "Chewy" Mongrain (who was in Voivod and used to be in Gorguts) and Patrice Hamelin (who was in Gorguts) would resurrect Martyr to headline Canada's Trois-Rivières Metalfest in 2023.
