History & Biography The black/death metal act was founded by Geert Rijs in 1996 and disbanded in 2002. A band with the same name was founded in The Netherlands years later, but this Martyrium obeyed the rules and customs of the scene and itself returned in 2014 (the act was only Geert at this juncture). First, however, there was a Demo '98 and a 2001 demo called Ideology Of Death. Early singer Sjors Hendriks can be heard on the first demo. Later Legion Of The Damned bassist Harold Gielen is also heard there. The 2001 demo featured singer Jan Van Eersel.
Singer Ron Classen was part of the returning line-up, but did not stay. Several years after reforming, the act issued a demo called Abandon Hope. It did not take its own advice and forged ahead. The Netherlands version of Martyrium had an album called Malevolent through Apostasy Records on 21.08.2026.
